Global Sustainability Bond Issuance Reached An All-Time Record of $231 Billion in the First Quarter of 2021
Global sustainability bond issuance reached an all-time record of $231 billion in the first quarter of 2021, more than three times higher than the first quarter of last year and 19% higher than the $195 billion issued in the last quarter of 2020. The $231 billion in quarterly issuance included three categories of record issuance: $99 billion in green bonds, $90 billion in socially responsibility bonds and $42 billion in sustainable bonds. Sustainable bonds accounted for 9.4% of total global debt issuance in the first quarter, the second highest quarterly share on record. (Source: Moody)
