China Carbon Emissions Trading Officially Launched at the Shanghai Environmental Energy Exchange
At 9:30 a.m. on July 16, China's carbon emissions trading was officially launched on the Shanghai Environmental Energy Exchange. The opening price of carbon allowances was RMB 48/ton, and as of the close of the day, the latest price of carbon allowances was RMB 51.23/ton, up 6.73%, with an average price of RMB 51.23/ton. The highest price of the day was RMB 52.80/ton and the lowest price was RMB 48/ton. The total transaction volume was 4.104 million tons, and the total transaction amount was 210 million yuan. The 2,225 power generation enterprises, which account for more than 40% of the country's carbon emissions, will be the first trading subjects, and China's carbon market will become the world's largest market covering greenhouse gas emissions.
