As of the End of September 2021, Foreign Institutions Held 3.84 Trillion Yuan of Bonds in the Interbank Market
On October 13, the People's Bank of China released a briefing on the interbank bond market for foreign institutions investment bank in September. As of the end of September 2021, foreign institutions held 3.84 trillion yuan of bonds in the interbank market, accounting for about 3.5% of the total custody volume of the interbank bond market. From the point of view of the type of securities, the main custody of foreign institutions is the government bonds, custody volume of 2.28 trillion yuan, accounting for 59.3%; followed by policy-oriented financial bonds, custody volume of 1.08 trillion yuan, accounting for 28.0%.
The People's Bank of China introduced that in September, 12 new foreign institutional entities entered the Chinese interbank bond market. By the end of September, a total of 991 overseas institutional entities entered the market, of which 494 entered the market through the direct investment channel, 703 entered the market through the "bond pass" channel, and 206 entered the market through both channels.
In September, the spot trading volume of foreign institutions in China's interbank bond market was about RMB 930 billion, with an average daily trading volume of about RMB 42 billion.
