FINANCING SUPPLY AND DEMAND SURVEY FEBRUARY 2023: BANK LOAN DISBURSEMENTS TRACK UPWARD TREND
The latest Financing Supply and Demand Survey conducted in February 2023 indicates increasing new loan disbursements by the banking industry, as reflected by a positive weighted net balance (WNB) of 66.7% to reverse the -7.2% recorded one month earlier. The main affecting factors of new loan disbursements in the reporting period were customer demand, the monetary and economic outlook as well as level of business competition between banks. Furthermore, respondents confirmed increasing new loan disbursements across all loan types.
Consistent with increasing new loan disbursements by the banking industry, corporate demand for financing in February 2023 also recorded positive growth, with a WNB of 9.4%. Demand for financing was primarily sourced from internal funds, which remained dominant, followed by committed undisbursed loans and affiliate loans/debt from a parent company. In addition, corporate demand for new loans disbursements through domestic banks also increased compared with conditions in the previous period.
In terms of households, demand for new financing remained relatively stable in February 2023, with commercial banks remaining the primary source of additional household financing in the form of multipurpose loans. In addition, households also relied on other sources to meet their financing needs, including cooperatives and leasing.
