International data board in Shanghai to boost cross-border flows
Construction on an international board at the Shanghai Data Exchange has been started to explore cross-border two-way data flows, Wu Jincheng, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, said at the Data Ecosystem Partnership Conference held in Singapore on Monday.
The new board will advance cross-border data business cooperation between Chinese and international companies to realize global data interconnection, he said.
Up to 30 data products will be listed on the board to facilitate high-level international economic and trade exchanges as well as cultural cooperation, said Tang Qifeng, SDE's general manager.
To ensure the operation of the board, the exchange is accelerating the construction of a cross-border data trading system, deepening the infrastructure layout and building a compliant and orderly international data circulation mechanism, Tang said.
Initiated in November 2021 as China's first national-level data exchange, the SDE started official operations in early January after going through a 13-month trial run. The annual trading value of the SDE topped over 100 million ($14.5 million) yuan in 2022, and is expected to pass 1 billion yuan this year.
