LSEG welcomed the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and special guest David Miliband, President and CEO of the IRC, to open markets for trading at the London Stock Exchange. Hosted by Brigitte Trafford, Chief Corporate Affairs and Marketing Officer, LSEG, and Chair of LSEG Foundation, the Market Open ceremony was followed by a Q&A session for LSEG employees, discussing the IRC’s crucial humanitarian work in communities globally.
David Miliband, President and CEO, International Rescue Committee, said:
“Never before has the world needed the IRC as it does today. Bold commitments from across sectors are needed to match the scale of today’s humanitarian needs. Our partnership with the LSEG Foundation will help the IRC to mobilise at the onset of crisis and help those affected to survive, recover and rebuild their lives.”
Brigitte Trafford, Chief Corporate Affairs and Marketing Officer, LSEG, and Chair, LSEG Foundation, said:
“The LSEG Foundation is a proud partner of the IRC and we are thrilled to be strengthening our funding commitment for 2023. They play a critical role on the ground working with communities in times of emergency and global companies the size and scale of LSEG can help support this vital work.”
The IRC helps people whose lives have been shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and rebuild. With over 100 million people forcibly displaced from their homes as a result of conflict, persecution and crisis, the IRC’s work is more important than ever. Today, the IRC works in over 40 crisis-affected countries, arriving at the onset of crisis and staying as long as needed. The IRC also helps refugees and other vulnerable people integrate into their new communities across dozens of cities in Europe and the Americas.
In the UK, the IRC works with refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants to help them find work, access education and understand British systems. Through its partnership with the IRC, the LSEG Foundation has supported disaster relief efforts across crisis-affected communities in Ukraine, Pakistan, Turkey and Syria.
The LSEG Foundation aims to help people access economic opportunities and build a secure future with financial independence. Working with charity and NGO partners, LSEG Foundation delivers a range of programmes across the globe, creating opportunities for those in need to participate in education, employment and enterprise.
