Nsano Zambia hosts an executive event to discuss the importance of collaborations and innovations in business. The Guest of honor, Khadija Iddrisu– Ghana High Commissioner to Zambia was accompanied by Kofi Owusu-Nhyira-NsanoFounder, Alberta Serwaa Boateng-Nsano Zambia Country Manager, Priscilla Anowa Hazel-Ghana Head of NsanoCommercial and Robert Phiri– CEO for Payment Association of Zambia, with other Guests.
Speaking during this event, held at Radisson blu hotel in Lusaka yesterday, Nsano Group Founder- Kofi Owusu-Nhyira, expressed words of gratitude for finding a financial services place in Zambia and commedeed the Zambia Central Bank for their proactive approach in fostering a conducive environment to fintechs and recognizing worthiness to be granted a licence, operating in zambia market. The bank of Zambia vision and efforts paved the way for innovation and collaborations.
According to his statement, Mr. Owusu-Nhyira emphasized that, there is need for, self-belief, having faith and opening doors as Africans. All the feats and achievements that Nsano Zambia has and experienced, is because the people provided achance and allowed Nsano group to open doors and oparate in Zambia. “Even without the finesse and form, let us give that start up a chance. In this market, Nsano is new and so we will be knocking on your door, asking for an opportunity to prove ourselves to you. Open the door to us. Give us a chance. We will make it worth your while. Make a bet on us. It’ll be a wager with the highest probability of you winning and it will bring you the expected value of growth”. Mr. Owusu-Nhyirasaid.
“The belief in our abilities as Africans, and young Africans for that matter. Nsano today hires over a 100 staff across our markets. We operate in several markets across Africa. We process payments for over a 1000 institutions including dozens of banks. Everything happening today is as a result of the teeming young people, all of African decent who are making this happen. We’ve set out to re-write the story of a new Africa. An Africa where excellence is a normal standard. We’ve built our business on the shoulders of Africa’s young. That’s who we are as Africans. Zambians can. Africans can!”Mr. Owusu-Nhyira added.
“Let me give you a shocker. We’ve not gone to Europe or America to raise a dime to build our business.
At least, not yet. It’s not that there’s anything bad about raising venture capital money from Europe or America. But we won’t always be compelled to do so. We must change the narrative that, we must by all means go to the east or west to raise money before we can build our enterprises. External capital is great, but we too can build and invest in other companies. I often say that, every bank, every merchant, every institution which gives us a chance to build a solution for them, gives us an impetus to keep running without a bowl in hand. We have boothstrapped and kept the discipline of growing a day at a time. So if you’re here as an entrepreneur who hasn’t been able to raise capital, our story is yours. You can still build. It’s possible”. Mr. Owusu-Nhyira added.
In summing up, Mr. Owusu-Nhyira, encouraged everyone not to fear and fear must always be overcome with faith and optimism. Faith that we can do it. Faith that it’s always worth the attempt. Faith that, the worst won’t happen. “Let’s hold hands and walk this journey together. We can indeed build a cashless Zambia. Until we meet at next year’s Fintech Executive Forum, let me leave you with the words of the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of blessed memory; Countrymen, the task ahead is great indeed, and heavy is the responsibility; and yet it is a noble and glorious challenge – a challenge which calls for the courage to dream, the courage to believe, the courage to dare, the courage to do, the courage to envision, the courage to fight, the courage to work, the courage to achieve – to achieve the highest excellencies and the fullest greatness of man”.
Speaking at this same event, Alberta Serwaa Boateng, who is the Nsano Zambia Country Manager said that, Nsano Zambia is focused on partnering towards growth. “Over the years, we have worked with these partners to roll out customer-centric solutions such as our school fees payment solution, village banking, and bills payment solution. We believe expanding such partnerships will benefit the industry as a whole. As such, the Fintech Executive Forum is focused on bringing all industry players together to discuss key policies and happenings in the payment space.”
In summing up, while speaking at panel discussion, Ms. Priscilla Hazel, the Nsano Group Head of Enterprise Business and Robert Phiri– Payment Association of Zambia CEO, espoused on the importance of collaboration and innovation. There is really need for working together, give each others a chance as Africans and make a huge bets on new innovation.
