Sber ranks on top of socially responsible business competition
Sber was assigned the highest A+ rating in a study carried out under the Corporate Charity Leaders, the 16th all-Russia competition for responsible businesses with the annual turnover surpassing RUB 100 mn. Forty-three companies participated.
The A+ rating is a sign of top quality management, charity-related processes and social investments in a company, which was ranked by the following parameters: the goals and strategy of charity, its forms and ways of organization, the management system and project selection, interaction with stakeholders during implementation and assessment, monitoring and evaluation of results, and impact on society.
Last year, Sber spent RUB 6.8 bn on charity in culture, education, healthcare, children's institutions, development of children’s creative potential, inclusive environment, and programs to care for veterans and people with disabilities. The bank puts a lot of effort into corporate volunteering, and 25,000 employees participate in it. Sber's volunteers run more than 750 projects that help address social issues. At the end of 2022, Sber won the first national award, Our Contribution, for the assistance of its volunteers in the implementation of Russia’s national projects.
Three of Sber's projects won awards, outpacing a total of 137 projects and programs in ten categories.
Saving Together, Sber's offline and online initiative to engage Russians in the ESG agenda in theory and practice, won The Best Program (Award) in Environmental Education. In 2023 alone, about 165,000 Sber employees and customers participated in the program’s environmental and social tracks. A key element of the project is the Saving Together digital platform, a navigator for useful habits, eco-knowledge and volunteering. It features educational and practically oriented content in different areas of life: taking care of oneself, one’s health, the environment, and people. The platform and related online channels have attracted about two million users in two years.
Green Marathon ranked third as The Best Program Contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals to Ensure Health, Healthy Lifestyle and Human Well-being for Sustainable Development. This is the biggest running project with environmental awareness and charitable components in Russia. In 2023, the 10th anniversary race was held in 60 cities of the country, bringing together 126,000 runners. The RUB 27 mn raised during the campaign was used to help children with special developmental needs and orphans and to plant trees in the regions where the race was held. Sber organized the sporting event for everyone together with Sberbank Charitable Foundation Investment to the Future.
The annual Sber Science Award ranked third as The Best Science-Supporting Program (Project). The prize is aimed at supporting Russian and foreign researchers working in Russia who conduct active research and open new perspectives in science and technology. The Sber Science Award was established in 2021 with a total prize pool of RUB 60 mn. Last year, in the nomination Digital Universe, the winner was Alexander Kholevo, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Alexander Gabibov, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, doctor of chemical sciences, won in the Life Sciences category. Yuri Oganesyan, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences won in the Physical World category. The second Sber Science Award ceremony will be held in December 2023.
Last year, two of the bank’s projects won the Corporate Charity Responsibility Competition: You Can Do It!, an employment project co-implemented with Sberbank Charitable Foundation Investment to the Future (1st place as The Best Inclusivity Development Program (Project)), and Green Marathon (ranked second in The Best Environmental Education Program (Project) category).
The 16th national competition for socially responsible businesses, Corporate Charity Leaders, is a project by Donors’ Forum, an association of the biggest grant giving organizations in Russia, aimed to support, develop, and advance corporate charity and social investment ideas of companies. The study draws on a special methodology. The rating methodology partner is B1 Group (formerly Ernst & Young in Russia), and the project’s media partner is Kommersant Publishing House. Since 2021, one of the project partners is ANO National Priorities. Winners of the social programs contest receive additional points when participating in the national award Our Contribution.
