• Amount is significantly higher than with other "cashback procedures"
• In the future, considerably wider network for free cash supply, including outside the major conurbations
Deutsche Bank follows 2025
Postbank customers can withdraw or deposit amounts up to 999.99 euros a day from 12.500 locations in Germany starting in November. The service can be found in the Postbank app under "Cash Code", where customers can create a barcode that will allow them to receive or deposit money from a participating retailer within two hours. All they need to do is show the barcode at the checkout. The app displays locations nearby.
Independent of this, Postbank and Deutsche Bank already offer their customers a comprehensive, free supply of cash with their own ATMs and through cooperation with other banks and Shell.
"With the cash code, we are expanding our deposit and withdrawal service from bank counters and ATMs to a nationwide network of 12,500 supermarkets and drugstore locations. Customers can withdraw significantly higher amounts than previous "cashback" offers and also deposit cash, which is particularly important for our business customers, making the cash code another component of our strategy to digitize simple banking services and products," says Dominik Hennen, Head of Personal Banking Germany.
The service is available at many well-known retailers such as Rewe, Penny, DM or Rossmann throughout Germany. Postbank offers it in cooperation with Grenke Bank AG and Paysafe.
The service has numerous advantages over the well-known "cashback" procedure. This allows customers to withdraw five times as much contributions as many of the previous offers. What is also new is that they can also deposit amounts up to the same amount.
In order to use the service, customers only need a current account. The processing takes place purely via the barcode, which is scanned at the cash register of the partner. Unlike the previous "cashback" offers, customers do not need to shop in the store or present a Girocard, nor do they need to specify the amount, which corresponds to the desire for more discretion.
"This new service will be available to a large number of Postbank customers starting in November, and we will gradually make it available to other customers, for example with joint accounts. In the second half of 2025, it will also be offered in the Deutsche Bank 'mobile app'. This makes Postbank and Deutsche Bank the first banks with a large branch network to offer this additional digital cash service in Germany," says Thorsten Peppler, head of the operational organisation in Personal Banking Germany.
