Surge in Fund Inflows to Brokerage Accounts in 2024 Q3
Over 2024 Q3, the net inflow of funds into brokerage accounts totalled ₽476 billion, which is the highest level from the end of 2021. For the largest part, the inflow was from qualified investors.
The increase in brokers' client base was minor, which was associated with high deposit rates, as well as the fact that the base had already significantly expanded over the past few years. Concurrently, investors' activity in the stock market remained high: on average, 3.8 million people per month conducted transactions on Moscow Exchange.
The most demanded instrument was units of exchange-traded funds of the money market purchased by both newbie and experienced investors. Another instrument demanded by investors was corporate bonds, including variable rate bonds.
Despite the notable inflow of funds, brokers' overall portfolio of client assets increased only slightly, namely from ₽9.4 trillion to ₽9.6 trillion, due to lower prices.
