Togo – Luxembourg: €22.5 million to accelerate the green transition
Togo is taking a major step forward in its fight for a green future. A financing agreement of 22.5 million euros was signed with Luxembourg, in the presence of the European Union. During a fruitful meeting in Lomé, the Minister of the Environment, Katari Foli-Bazi, sealed this strategic partnership. This financial support, allocated to the Climate Change Support Programme (PALCC+), aims to strengthen waste management and protect the country's natural parks.
€22.5 million for innovative waste management
The core of the PALCC+ project is based on improving the collection, treatment and recovery of waste in six major cities. With this funding, modern infrastructure, such as sorting and recycling centres, will be built. According to Katari Foli-Bazi, these funds will "transform our approach to waste management, while creating economic opportunities for local communities". This project is fully in line with the Togo 2025 Roadmap, which aims to make the country a model of sustainability in West Africa.
Togo – Luxembourg: preserving biodiversity, a national priority
A significant portion of the funds will be used to protect priority parks, such as Fazao-Malfakassa National Park. To do this, the project provides for strengthened measures against poaching and deforestation, as well as awareness programs for local communities. As a member of the Initiative for the Protection of Elephants (EPI), Togo reaffirms its commitment to preserving its emblematic species in a context of climate change.
Togo – Luxembourg: an exemplary international partnership for a sustainable future
The discussions, held in the presence of the Ambassador of the European Union, Joaquín Tasso Vilallonga, highlighted the solidity of relations between Togo and its European partners. Luxembourg, already involved in the Forests4Future project, confirms its role as a key partner. As a Luxembourg representative said, "this funding reflects our confidence in Togo's environmental vision." This support is part of the Team Europe initiative, which aims to coordinate the efforts of EU countries for maximum impact.
Togo, the future hub of climate governance
This partnership with Luxembourg and the EU illustrates Togo's ambition to become a regional hub for climate governance. Indeed, by mobilizing international resources and aligning its policy with the Sustainable Development Goals, Togo is positioning itself as a major player in the ecological transition in West Africa. As climate challenges intensify, can the country succeed in its bet and inspire its neighbors in the fight to protect the environment?
