On September 2, 2025, the China–Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Green Industry Cooperation Platform was officially launched in the Tianjin Ziya Economic and Technological Development Area. The platform aims to strengthen dialogue, facilitate practical project collaboration, and harmonize green standards among member states. The unveiling coincided with the release of the SCO Member States Green Industry Development and Cooperation Report 2025 and the signing of several key cooperation projects.

Projects under the platform focus on sustainable energy, agriculture, and industrial development. Partners emphasized leveraging China's expertise in green energy, environmental management, and wastewater treatment to foster scalable and environmentally friendly solutions. Tianjin authorities highlighted the platform's role in developing urban mining, remanufacturing industries, and cross-border recycling logistics, positioning the zone as both a modern industrial hub and a global model for circular economy practices. Experts note that this initiative strengthens the SCO countries' shared green-development agenda while generating tangible opportunities for sustainable industrial growth across the region.

On the same day, the China–SCO Digital Economy Cooperation Platform was inaugurated in Tianjin, designed to enhance multi-layered international collaboration in digital sectors. Its mission encompasses supporting national strategic priorities, promoting digital cooperation across SCO countries, and advancing high-quality regional digital economy development. Key focus areas include interconnection of data infrastructure, mutual recognition of data standards, digital talent cultivation, and collaborative research in emerging technologies.

Officials highlighted a practical, inclusive approach: flagship projects alongside smaller, impactful initiatives aim to deliver tangible benefits to citizens across SCO countries, harnessing the “digital dividend” to drive economic modernization. Tianjin's role as a national digital economy innovation hub—with a platform economy worth 600 billion RMB and leading supercomputing capacity—provides a foundation for cross-border AI applications, smart-city initiatives, and digital trade expansion. The platform is expected to facilitate seamless data flow, foster innovative operational models, and serve as a shared blueprint for digital collaboration among member states.

Both platforms reflect China’s commitment to promoting high-quality, sustainable development within the SCO framework. By integrating green industrial initiatives with digital economy cooperation, the platforms offer member states practical pathways to advance innovation, economic modernization, and cross-border industrial integration. Observers note that these initiatives not only strengthen regional collaboration but also set a precedent for South–South cooperation in sustainable development, providing replicable models for other emerging economies.
