BCL: Evolution of the sum of credit institutions' balance sheets
The Banque centrale du Luxembourg informs that, on the basis of provisional figures, the sum of credit institutions' balance sheets amounted to €976,349 million as at 31 July 2025 compared to €984,310 million as at 30 June 2025, a decrease of 0.81%.
This change is mainly due to the decline in claims on other banks and deposit-taking institutions. On the liability side, this is due to a decrease in liabilities to other sectors, debt represented by a security and other liabilities. On an annual basis, the sum of the balance sheets of credit institutions increased by 2.76%.

The interbank balance, i.e. the difference between interbank claims and liabilities, decreased by €16,749 million, or 6.99%, to €222,892 million at the end of July 2025.
Loans to non-bank customers increased by €546 million, or 0.47%, between June 2025 and July 2025. Over twelve months, these appropriations increased by €3,485 million, or 3.09%.

Between July 2024 and July 2025, loans to non-financial corporations (NFCs) decreased by €3,048 million (or 11.68%), real estate loans to households increased by €1,215 million (or 2.96%) and loans to other financial intermediaries (AIFs) increased by €6,100 million (or 16.04%).
On the liability side, deposits in the resident non-bank sector declined by €7 million between June 2025 and July 2025. Year-on-year, these deposits increased by €21,244 million, or 7.34%.

Between July 2024 and July 2025, deposits by Other Financial Intermediaries (AIFs) (which include money market and non-monetary funds and whose share amounted to 67.4% as of 31 July 2025) increased by €15,768 million (8.13%) and those of households increased by €1,961 million (4.21%). NFC deposits increased by €2,364 million (9.8%) and those in other sectors[1] increased by €1,152 million (4.61%).
