SGX Orb Awards to spotlight Asia's role in the future of finance
Singapore Exchange (SGX Group) today launched the sixth edition of its annual SGX Orb Awards to recognise excellence in financial journalism and content. For the first time, this year’s special category will accept entries only from next-generation investors – students from around the world with an interest in the financial markets – challenging them to imagine the future of finance and Asia’s role in it.
With rising adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and growing interest in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing, the SGX Orb Awards this year is turning its spotlight to how these opportunities can accelerate market innovation, transform risk management and reinforce trust and efficiency.
Launched in 2018, the SGX Orb Awards is part of SGX Group’s broadening efforts to foster financial literacy and empower investors. Each year, the initiative attracts submissions from local and international content producers that include written pieces, audio-visual work as well as illustrations. Participants include the print and broadcast media, online news sites backed by publishing or editorial companies, as well as independent writers such as bloggers or investment websites. With this year’s special category, the next generation of investors can have a voice too.
Judging will be conducted by a distinguished independent panel. Members of the public can nominate and vote for their preferred entries among the shortlisted contenders, and the winners in five categories will be unveiled in September 2023. Appendix: SGX Orb Awards – Award Categories
♦Story of the Year
We are seeking a news story, feature or opinion piece that best offers insights into investing in the securities or derivatives markets across multiple asset classes – Commodities, Equity Derivatives, Fixed Income, FX, Indices and Securities. Which innovations have driven the development of asset classes or opportunities for retail and institutional investors? How has technology transformed risk management, or reinforced trust and efficiency? The winner of this category will demonstrate the ability to uncover a fresh angle and capture what is important for market participants to know.
♦Special Category: Capturing the Future of Finance
For this year’s special category, we are seeking original work from students on how market participants in Asia are capturing the future of finance. Are companies able to leverage emerging technologies and embrace new business models while maintaining a focus on their core values? Can they also demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices and responsible investing that meet the needs and expectations of their stakeholders and future generations?
♦The Hidden Gem
This award seeks to honour the best feature or analysis of an under-covered stock listed on SGX Securities, either on Mainboard or Catalist. The challenge will be to uncover a fresh angle that investors or analysts may have missed. If you have a knack for turning complex concepts into clear and precise storytelling, we want to hear from you.
♦An Experiential Treat
This popular category is for all things creative and experiential – for example, a broadcast segment for TV, a homemade video, podcast or illustrations that probe deep into the workings of a financial or commodity asset class. The winner will deliver a compelling story while offering viewers an experience to remember.
♦#TheGoTo
We aim to enhance financial education, and the award for this category will go to the best digital platform - whether it is an online news aggregator, financial blogger, independent website or social media site that most empowers investors to make educated decisions with their money. If your work stands out from the pack for all the right reasons, you can be a winner.
