BANKING SURVEY QUARTER IV 2023: NEW LOAN DISBURSEMENTS INCREASING
The latest Banking Survey conducted by Bank Indonesia in the fourth quarter of 2023 indicates increasing new loan disbursements, as reflected by an uptick in the Weighted Net Balance (WNB) to 96.1% from 95.4% in the previous period. The increase was primarily driven by investment loans and working capital loans. In the first quarter of 2024, however, respondents predict new loan disbursements to moderate, with a WNB of 44.6%.
Respondents reported slightly tighter lending standards in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to conditions in the previous period, as indicated by a positive Lending Standards Index of 0.3%, primarily in terms of collateral requirements, credit lines, and document requirements. On the other hand, lending rates and administration fees will remain looser.
The latest Survey also reveals how respondents remain optimistic on credit growth moving forward in response to the monetary and economic outlook as well as relatively mitigated credit risk, predicting 10.8% (yoy) credit growth overall in 2024.
