India and Singapore Strengthen Strategic Partnership as PM Modi Announces 'Invest India Office' in Singapore
During his visit to Singapore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of an Invest India Office, which will serve as a support hub for Singaporean investors across various sectors, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. The announcement is timely, given the rapid growth of opportunities in India, as highlighted by Jaideep Mazumdar, MEA Secretary East, who noted that it is an ideal moment for Singapore's leading CEOs to gain a firsthand understanding of India's offerings.
During a special briefing, it was revealed that four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were exchanged between the two countries, covering cooperation in the semiconductor ecosystem, digital technologies, skill development and education, and healthcare. These agreements reflect the six key pillars of future cooperation identified by the recent India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable. Both nations have decided to elevate their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, marking a significant step forward in their bilateral relationship.
Additionally, PM Modi's visit included meetings with CEOs of prominent Singaporean companies with substantial investments in India. These interactions were seen as crucial, as the CEOs were presented with insights into India’s political stability, policy predictability, and reform-driven economic agenda.
Prime Minister Modi also visited AEM Holdings, a major player in the global semiconductor sector. During the visit, he was briefed on AEM's operations, its involvement in the global semiconductor value chain, and its plans for India. Both leaders also engaged with interns who had participated in bilateral skill training programs, further underscoring the shared commitment to enhancing workforce development in this sector.
In the area of people-to-people exchanges, PM Modi announced the establishment of the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre in Singapore, marking another milestone in the growing cultural ties between the two nations.
